A self driving car probably won't kill you; but do you want to give it the chance?

FSD Beta software that allows a vehicle to exceed speed limits or travel through intersections in an unlawful or unpredictable manner increases the risk of a crash.

Southwest's ad-hoc on demand scheduling software woes and Global flight scheduling Data Systems connection failures are known to have stranded thousands of people near the end of 2022.

Boeing deliberately pushed engineering standards past shaky ethical grounds and into fatal accidents while trying to program a new plane to fly like a completely different, older plane, specifically to avoid regulatory oversight and time consuming certification processes, as well as obfuscating the problem in documentation, or plain not making it available to pilots.

How ‘Boeing’s Fatal Flaw’ Grounded the 737 Max and Exposed Failed Oversight (Published 2021)
A new documentary by Frontline, in partnership with The New York Times, examines how competitive pressure, flawed design and problematic oversight of the Boeing jet led to two crashes that killed 346 people.
Boeing Withheld Data on System Linked to Crashes, Report Says
Boeing Co. provided only “limited information” on the flight-control software implicated in two fatal crashes on the 737 Max as it was being approved by federal regulators, a government watchdog report has found.

Design shortcuts meant to make a new plane seem like an old, familiar one are to blame

These profit minded actions didn't delay people's holiday celebrations, they resulted in the deaths of 346 people.

In August of 2022 the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA,) predicted 2022 would reach an all-time record for road deaths

NHTSA Early Estimates Show Record Increase in Fatalities Nationwide | NHTSA
NHTSA’s early estimates show a record-high 9,560 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes in the first quarter of 2022.
2022 USDOT National Roadway Safety Strategy graphic showing roadway deaths making up 94.2% of all fatal transportation incidents between 2011 and 2022.

Commercial aviation and passenger air transport are historically some of the all-time safest ways to travel in human history. This is due to a dedication and respect for the engineering and process involved; pilot training, crew resource management, ground operations, and the myriad of other unnamed portions that float over a billion people across the United States alone every year.

And yet we still make mistakes. Complex and hard-to-update systems that work tend to keeping working, and only receive maintenance in the forms of hopes and prayers.

The FAA apologizing for deleting some files it needed. This grounded all air traffic in the United States for a morning.

Referring back to the National Roadway Safety Strategy (NRSS), fatal incidents in air transport numbered 4,177 in the period studied. Road deaths numbered   354,272, 85 times the number of people that met their fate while flying.

346 Boeing crashes 85 times over is 29,410. Are we through making simple coding mistakes that will kill people? As a species I think I felt us communally and co-incidentally get over that about fifteen seconds ago. We should be good to throw another 30,000 people on the pyre.

There's a lot more competition to cars, and a lot more of them flying around in their own way on our roads. That's partly why they cause more deaths than flying, but they're also piloted by people with far less piloting experience and/or training, who are far more likely to be distracted, intoxicated, or just plain malicious.

This comes not as a warning, but as an accusation as the automotive manufacturer Tesla, well known for labor violations, questionable product quality, vehicle fires, and its triumphant genius emerald fortune CEO, to be brief, issued a recall for buggy "Full Self-Driving" (FSD) beta software causing numerous notable fatal crashes.

Recall notice from NHTSA issued 2/15/23 for 2016-2023 Models S,3,X,Y. Campaign Number 23V085000.

The concept that in-progress software for automatic control of high-speed and energy life safety systems for minimally-trained/attentive personnel is not only allowed and currently on our roads, shared by our loved ones, passing our houses, but an admired portion of Tesla's valuation proves unilaterally unequivocal failure of the United States ability to govern for its peoples.

If NHTSA and the Department of Transportation were interested in reducing road deaths in America, they would have implemented proven traffic calming measures decades ago, and created policy that aided in transitioning communities and urban centers away from paved nightmares and into parks and walkable infrastructure.

Instead of buggy proprietary individual vehicle control systems, we could be working on V2V solutions that share information and awareness about the state of the road surface and vehicle intentions, automated braking for convoys in emergency situations, and automatic traffic control and collision avoidance at intersections.

Instead government and the regulatory bodies that are supposed to be protecting the American people let private interests run rampant, allowing infrastructure many consider to be the veins and arteries of our once great nation to be split open in the interests of bloodying a South African's sandbox.
